India vs BanglaDesh

While Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Friday insisted his team will go into Saturday’s World Cup opener against Bangladesh here at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium without the baggage of their humiliating loss in 2007, his Bangladeshi counterpart Shakib Al Hasan sounded confident of his squad’s show in the match.

The high-profile Indians suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in their first match of the previous edition in the Caribbean, leading to the team’s first-round exit.

But Dhoni, preparing for the day-night clash, said the loss four years ago had not even crossed his mind in the past few years.

“Frankly, I have never thought about it, but we obviously don’t want a repeat,” said Dhoni, who was part of the 2007 squad which was led by Rahul Dravid and coached by Australian Greg Chappell.

Dhoni claimed that his team was in a better frame of mind going into the tournament, and insisted there was no additional pressure on the boys playing in the sub-continent.

“Being a co-host will always bring a lot of expectations,” the wicketkeeper-batsman stated. “But we do not get bogged down by expectations.

“The important thing is to do the process right. We always look to put more emphasis on the process, rather than on winning, and this is what has made us a successful team.” India are the number one Test team in the International Cricket Council’s official rankings, and are placed second behind Australia in one-day cricket.

India have won 20 of their 22 one-day matches against the Tigers, but Dhoni refused to take another victory for granted.

“Bangladesh is a good side with three very good left-arm spinners,” he remarked. “They rely a lot on spinners, especially in the sub-continent where slow bowlers get a lot of help.”India go into the Cup opener on the back of two convincing morale-boosting wins over Australia and New Zealand in practice matches this week.

“The tournament already started for us with those practice matches. We have picked up the intensity and now look forward to our next game,” he said.

“Like any other team, we want to begin our campaign on a winning note.” The Indians rely mainly on their powerful batting, led by world record holder Sachin Tendulkar, to pile up a big total Match starts at 1:30pm and bat the other side out of a match.

India vs Newzeland cricket History

has a 55.42% win record against the Newzealand in ODI Cricket. However, that does not give the accurate current picture. In the initial period, through the 1970s and 1980s, New Zealand had an edge to begin with. However, in the last few years, India have definitely has the much record.
Newzealand won many series in the 70's and 80's but this time india is more strong than the Newzealand.

In the last ODI series between the two, India blanked out New Zealand 5-0. That was only a couple of months ago. Barring one match, the 4th ODI, where the tourists batting first scored 315 for 7, the rest were pretty one sided affairs. So the Men in Blue will definitely take the field today as firm favourites. It will need a very good showing from the Kiwis to upstage their much fancied opponents who are being seen as the favourites to win the World Cup crown this time.

Afridi Interview before First warm up match

Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi on Monday hinted at playing an extra spinner in the team during the World Cup starting on Saturday.

The experienced all-rounder said Pakistan had several spin options and they were prepared to unleash them on turning tracks of the subcontinent.

“The playing conditions here would be quite different to what we encountered during our [recent] tour of New Zealand,” Afridi said.

Pakistan will play two warm-ups here before beginning their campaign in group ‘A’ against Kenya in Hambantota, Sri Lanka on Feb 23.

“Here we can explore the idea of playing an extra specialist spinner,” he added.

Pakistan have two specialist spinners — Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehman — in their 15-man squad. Afridi and all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez also add variety to their spin attack.

Afridi has also played down fears that Pakistan will be going into the World Cup with a depleted pace attack saying that his fast bowlers have the guts to shine in the mega event.

“I don’t think that there is any cause for concern,” Afridi said. “Our team is shaping up well and the boys are all highly motivated to give their best in the World Cup,” he stressed.

Pakistan will go into the World Cup after a moraleboosting ODI series triumph in New Zealand earlier this month. Despite the good results, Pakistan are not counted among the top five title contenders because of their depleted pace battery.

Shoaib akther rawalpindi express in the new kit of worldcup 2011.
Pakistan will be in this uniform during world cup.
May this kit become lucky like the kit of 1992 worldcup kit.
"Pakistan’s experienced Shoaib Akhtar on Sunday brushed aside the suspension of two of his partners in the Pakistan pace attack, predicting they still had more than enough variety to succeed in the World Cup.

Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir were banned for at least five years by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after they were found guilty of corruption.

“Obviously, we are unfortunate that they are not there. But still whatever the pace attack we have is good enough to win matches,” Shoaib told a news conference in Dhaka ahead of next Saturday’s World Cup opening.

He said Umar Gul, Wahab Riaz and himself along with Junaid Khan could still restrict any side in the world.

“We have the best combination for the new ball and reverse with the older. I think we can manage to put it right.” Shoaib said the strength of his team lay in swing bowling, especially reverse swing with the more battered, older ball."

Exclusive interview of Coach and CAPTAIN

Addressing a crowded news conference here before the national squad’s departure to Dhaka in the wee hours of Friday, while Afridi eyed the semi-finals as his initial target, Waqar reckoned if the players maintained their triumphant performance they produced in New Zealand Pakistan had equal chances to win the mega event.

“We are going to participate in the World Cup with high aims and the nation will see good results. Given our effective combination I see my team at least in the semi-finals,” Afridi, flanked by Waqar and team manager Intikhab Alam, told reporters while refraining to pick any out-andout favourites for the game’s top competition.

To a question, Afridi while admitting his limited-overs captaincy record had not been ideal, advised critics to avoid making claims without having precise facts and figures, saying: “My individual performance was good since I remained [Pakistan’s] top scorer and highest wicket taker last year.” Dismissing the misgivings that Pakistan’s success rate depended on his decisions to bat or field first after winning the toss (as happened in New Zealand recently), Afridi asserted plainly that decisions relating to the team were always combined.

Commenting on Shoaib Akhtar’s fitness, Waqar said everyone knew about his fitness that it was not outstanding. But the head coach added that the team needed his experience because of which he had been selected for the World Cup.

Speaking on rookie fast bowler Junaid Khan who has come in the side to replace injured Sohail Tanvir on Wednesday,Waqar said he had not seen the youngster in action yet.

But the coach added that he had received encouraging reports about Junaid from the selectors and the team management under whom the left-armer had played for Pakistan Under-19 and ‘A’ teams in the past.

“We have promising youngsters like Wahab Riaz and top spinners like Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehman while batting line-up has talented Mohammad Hafeez and Ahmed Shehzad along with other seniors.

“There is a possibility that Pakistan and India play the final of the World Cup and if that happens it would be ideal for the World Cup, one-day format and for the game of cricket,” Afridi said.

“Both India and Pakistan have to play above their potential to reach the final but it would be ideal for billions of people around the world,” stated Afridi.

At U-19 level Junaid Khan was among of a crop of the most promising young fast bowlers in recent years, alongside Mohammad Amir. Good pace and better stamina and an ability to move the ball around if the conditions are right, Khan finally made it to national contention when he was called up for Pakistan's 2011 World Cup squad as a late replacement for Sohail Tanvir.

Khan is from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and has built up an impressive domestic career with Abbottabad, for whom he debuted in January 2007. The record acquires greater sheen given that Abbottabad are among the weaker sides on the circuit. Those performances have led him to Pakistan A selection, for whom he has been impressive in two series now, never less than when taking nine wickets in a 'Test' against Sri Lanka A in Hambantota in September 2010.

Afridi and Misbah latest Interview

Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said all players played their part in the series win against New Zealand
while vice-captain Misbah-ul-Haq brushed aside rumours about groupings in the squad.

The Pakistan squad returned home from Auckland, New Zealand, in the early hours of Tuesday.

Talking to reporters at the Quaid-i-Azam International airport, Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said all players played their part in the series win against New Zealand.

He added that the win gave him confidence to do well at the World Cup.

“All players contributed towards our win in New Zealand which gives us confidence that we can do well in the World Cup.

“You can never expect to win depending on just one or two players. Every player has to contribute in some way,” Afridi said.

“We were doing well in patches but were unable to win series. This time we managed to do that with collective effort.

“Don’t forget New Zealand are a very difficult side to beat at home,” he added.

Afridi said he was happy with the combination of players given to him for the World Cup and confident of lifting the trophy.

“We just need to continue doing our basics right. And with the nation praying for us, we are now among the favourites.” He said while the team could not ignore recent events off the field, they were trying to focus just on cricket.

“The team has become mentally tougher and is hungry for success,” the captain said.

Afridi said subcontinent pitches would give advantage to the Asian teams.

Misbah dismissed grouping rumours in the side and said all the players were united with their eyes set on the World Cup.

He dismissed rumours of rift among players over captaincy.

“The team was united and we played as a unit. There was no grouping of any sort,” he stressed.

The middle-order batsman who spearheaded the team in the Test series said the team badly needed a victory before the ICC mega event to boost its morale.

“I am enjoying my good form and would try my level best to perform,” he added.

Former skipper Younis Khan said he hoped Pakistan would win the World Cup because the side was in high spirit.

“If the team manages to repeat their NZ performance at the World Cup, we will then have high chances of clinching the trophy,” he concluded.

Sohail out junaid in worldcup squad

Sohail tanveer out from the worldcup squad at the last moment due to the injury of knee.this injury is from surgery for a knee problem that has dogged him for two years. He will be replaced by the promising young left-arm fast bowler Junaid Khan.
A PCB medical panel, after looking into a management report, said that though "the recovery from a knee operation was good, during the [New Zealand] tour it was observed that quick movements and pickup with weight particularly on the operated knee is hindering his mobility and requires him to take a few extra steps to balance himself before throwing. The medical team and team management have opined that Sohail Tanvir still requires time to attain 100% fitness before he can compete at international level."
